Malindi, Kilifi County — The 4th Uganda–Kenya Coast Tourism Conference and Exhibition has officially opened at the Ocean Beach Resort and Spa in Malindi, bringing together key players from the tourism industry under the theme: “Leveraging Youth, Innovation, and Technology for Responsive and Inclusive Tourism.”
The three-day conference provides a platform for over 750 delegates to engage in discussions on digital transformation, youth-led innovation, and sustainable tourism practices, while exploring new opportunities for cross-border collaboration and growth.

In his opening remarks, Uganda’s Consul General in Mombasa, Ambassador Paul Mukumbya, underscored the value of partnership between Uganda and Kenya in advancing the region’s tourism potential.
“We’re not competing; we’re complementing each other’s strengths,” Ambassador Mukumbya said. “Kenya has its beautiful beaches, while Uganda boasts silverback gorillas. By marketing our unique attractions together, we can create a richer and more diverse tourism experience for visitors.”

He outlined key areas of collaboration to unlock the sector’s full potential, including: Business Summits to promote adventure and business tourism; FAM Trips for experiential tourism showcasing local agriculture and cuisine; Knowledge and Experience Sharing to foster cultural exchange and skills transfer; Sports Tourism to attract adventure sports and regional events; Technology and Innovation to drive digital solutions and new products; and Public-Private Partnerships to strengthen private sector participation.
The Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Rebecca Miano, who officiated as Chief Guest, commended the collaboration between Uganda and Kenya and highlighted the critical role of youth and innovation in shaping the future of tourism.

The Governor of Kilifi County also welcomed delegates, emphasising the importance of empowering young people as drivers of transformation in the sector.
Ambassador Mukumbya encouraged delegates to experience the best of both countries’ attractions. “Let’s work together to build a thriving tourism industry that benefits our communities and strengthens regional unity,” he said.
