Havana — The President of the International Relations Committee of the Cuban National Assembly, Mr Alberto Núñez, together with Mr Ulman Carmona, Head of Africa and Arab Affairs at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a high-level meeting on 21 November with Hon. Fred Opolot, Vice Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda.

Hon. Opolot was accompanied by H.E. Elizabeth Sylvia Musaazi, Uganda’s Ambassador to Cuba; Amb. Elly Kamahungye, Head of International Political Cooperation, and officials from the Embassy of Uganda in Havana.

During the cordial discussions, the two delegations exchanged views on expanding cooperation and deepening the historic bonds of friendship between Uganda and Cuba. The meeting focused on strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, enhancing collaboration in education, health, and technical exchange, and exploring new opportunities for partnership aligned with the development priorities of both nations.

Mr Núñez welcomed the Ugandan delegation and reaffirmed Cuba’s steadfast commitment to strengthening engagement with African partners. He highlighted the longstanding solidarity between the two countries and praised the continued dialogue at the parliamentary level as vital to advancing bilateral relations.

Hon. Opolot expressed appreciation for Cuba’s enduring support and reiterated Uganda’s desire to broaden cooperation in sectors that directly improve the well-being and development of its citizens. He emphasised the importance of structured parliamentary engagement in driving deeper and more impactful collaboration.

Both sides agreed to maintain regular consultations and to work together to implement concrete initiatives aimed at reinforcing bilateral relations and promoting sustainable development for the peoples of Cuba and Uganda.
