Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited has announced a new round of acting appointments across its senior leadership structure as the state utility accelerates an internal reorganisation ahead of a broader role in Uganda’s electricity distribution sector.
In a staff memo issued Tuesday, Acting Managing Director Joselynne Rwakakooko confirmed eight appointments spanning engineering, commercial operations, human resources, technology, audit and stakeholder management.
Sylver Hategekimana was appointed Acting Chief Engineering and Technical Services Officer, while Isaac Katewanga assumed the role of Acting Chief Commercial Officer.
Other appointments include Samuel Omoding as Acting Head of Human Resource and Administration, Stephen Ilungole as Acting Head of Corporate and Stakeholder Affairs, Nickson Ahabwe as Acting Head of Internal Audit, and Richard Opiyo as Acting Head of Technology and Applications.
Francis Ddamulira was named Acting Manager for Applications, while Christine Atuhaire takes over as Acting Manager HR Officer for Business Partners.
The latest changes follow the recent appointment of Rwakakooko as Acting Managing Director after board-approved leadership adjustments at the agency.
The restructuring comes at a pivotal moment for UEDCL as the government moves to deepen state oversight of electricity distribution following the expiry of Umeme’s concession.
Sector observers say the appointments signal an effort to strengthen institutional capacity as UEDCL assumes expanded operational responsibilities within Uganda’s power distribution network.
In the memo, Rwakakooko called on staff to support the transition, expressing confidence in the utility’s ability to deliver “reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity supply” in support of Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
