Tororo Officials Convicted, Sentenced over Graft

The Anti-Corruption Court has convicted and sentenced Tororo district officials for corruption-related offences.

They are; Mause Tom, the former Chairperson of the Area Land Committee and three directors of the Lions Club of Tororo Host Ltd; Googo Nelson, Wamala Lawrence and Dambio John.

The accused together with Osudo Jackson, Principal Assistant Secretary/Secretary District Land Board were charged with attempting to fraudulently register land measuring approximately four acres hosting the Tororo Children’s Park.

The directors acting with Mr Mause Tom and Mr Osudo Jackson attempted to fraudulently register the land to their private company, Lions Club of Tororo Host Ltd created to usurp the rights of the legitimately registered trustees of Lions Club of Tororo.

This fraudulent process was intercepted at the Ministry of Lands Zonal Offices, Mbale after it was found that there was no input from the Physical Planner.

These acts were reported to the Anti-Corruption Unit which liaised with the police to arrest the accused in May 2022.

The operation also led to the arrest of the Municipal Engineer and the Town Clerk.

According to the prosecution, the Directors of Tororo Lions Club Host Ltd conspired with the senior lands management officer and the former chairperson of the Area Land Committee to unlawfully transfer public land comprised in Plot 8-20 Busia Road.

The subject land is being used as a children’s park.

In a related development, the Tororo Municipality Town clerk and the Municipal Engineer were also arrested over embezzlement of over Ugx 180m funds meant to construct the Kagera bridge.
