Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), working with the Uganda Police Force, have arrested three suspects in connection with the suspected poisoning of seven hyenas in Kaburabutembero area in Lake Mburo National Park.
The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation on June 21, 2026, in Akayanja Sub-county, Kiruhura District.
The suspects include Kayomberera Steven (55 years old), Nayamuba Dickens (40 years old), and Lotee Joseph (30 years old). The three are currently held at Kiruhura Central Police Station as further investigations continue.
The authority noted that it is fully committed to combating wildlife crime and ensuring that those responsible for harming wildlife are brought to justice.
