Uganda’s U-17 Women’s National Team, the Teen Cranes, booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship after defeating Zanzibar 3-0 at KMC Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Tuesday.

The victory ensured Uganda’s qualification to the last four with a match to spare, taking their tally to six points from two Group B fixtures.

The Teen Cranes were largely in control throughout the contest and eventually broke the deadlock just before halftime. Shadia Nabirye capitalised on Uganda’s sustained pressure to score in the 44th minute, giving her side a deserved lead heading into the break.

Uganda returned for the second half with the same intensity and extended their advantage in the 58th minute through Immaculate Acen. The goal further tilted the match in Uganda’s favour as Zanzibar struggled to contain the visitors’ attacking threat.

Justine Ayerango completed the scoring in the 90th minute, capping off a dominant display and securing Uganda’s second consecutive victory of the tournament.

Head coach Sheryl Botes commended her players for executing the game plan and showing composure against a physically demanding opponent.

“It was not only about the goals today but also the performance of the players. We knew Zanzibar would be a difficult opponent because of their physical approach, but I had confidence in the players and their abilities,” Botes said after the match.

With qualification secured, Uganda will now turn its attention to the final Group B encounter against South Sudan on June 18. The match offers an opportunity for the Teen Cranes to maintain their winning run and build momentum ahead of the knockout stages.

Uganda’s starting lineup featured Sharifah Namutebi Kizito in goal, with Tahia Nantege, Jovia Nakirya, captain Martha Babirye, Angel Gerevans Dominick, Vicky Atyeronimungu, Lydia Namaseruka, Flavia Yagala, Shadia Nabirye, Justine Ayerango and Immaculate Acen.

Substitutes available for the match included Adam Mayimuna Namuwaya, Ritah Nambuusi Anita, Tracy Nabalanzi, Grace Kawiino, Nakalema Rashidah, Cynthia Kirenga, Brenda Nassaka and Phionah Arach.
