A dark cloud is hanging over the medical profession following the death of Doctor Muhammad Ali due to the Ebola Virus Disease.
This was announced by Health minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng.
“I regret to announce that we have lost our first doctor, Dr Mohammed Ali, a Tanzanian National, 37-year-old male today at 3:15am,” Aceng said on Saturday.
He tested positive for Ebola on September 26, 2022 and died while receiving treatment at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital, Isolation facility.
“I condole with his family, medical fraternity, KIU university and the people of Tanzania,” Aceng said.
Dr. Ali is the first Doctor, and second health worker to have succumbed to Ebola.
He is one of six health workers at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital who contracted the disease earlier in the week.
Dr Aceng said the first was a midwife from St Florence Clinic, a probable case, because she died before testing.
According to the ministry of Health, there are 35 cumulative cases of Ebola in Uganda and seven cumulative deaths.
