The opposition caucus has voted JEEMA president, Asuman Basalirwa to compete for the speakership position in Parliament. He will face NRM’s Anita Among, come Friday 25, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
The decision, was reached at on Thursday 24, following a voting process by members of opposition in Parliament.
The race, attracted two legislators, Basaalirwa and Jonathan Odur, however, the Bugiri Municipality legislator, polled the highest number of votes.
In the secret ballot, Basalirwa polled 49 votes against Jonathan Odur’s 20 to emerge the winner.
Parliament will Friday sit to vote the speaker of the 11th parliament for the next four years. The sit fell vacant after the office holder, Rt Hon. Jacob Oulanyah died on Sunday in Seattle, USA where he had been admitted.
