Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has told the young people in Rukungiri to use Thursday’s vote to cause change and liberation of the country from what he called a political problem.

Bobi Wine is currently in Rukungiri together with several other opposition politicians to campaign for Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate, Betty Muzanira Bamukwatsa in the highly contested Woman MP by-election.

“We are not doing this for Betty. This is bigger than any of us. This is a struggle for the liberation of our country,” Bobi Wine said while speaking at a rally in Buyanja sub county on Tuesday, the last day of campaigning.

“To the youth, you have a contribution to make, now that you know what the problem is. This is a revolution. Unity is strength. We did it in Kyadondo East, Jinja and we can do it here,” he added.

The singer-cum-politician said every generation has a calling and that theirs is to join the struggle against corruption and to reinstate democracy.

He said Uganda’s problem is leaders who say one thing and do the other, citing the NRM candidate in the election, Winnie Matsiko who voted in favour of tampering with the Constitution last year yet the electorate had sent her to vote otherwise.

The other rally was held in Kebisoni where Dr Kizza Besigye, FDC President, Patrick Amuriat and predecessor Gen Mugisha Muntu, Leader of Opposition, Winnie Kizza, Kampala Mayor, Erias Lukwago and Moses Kasibante among others centred their message on rallying everyone to participate but also protect their vote.

Besigye reminded the people of Rukungiri that casting the ballot in favour of the FDC candidate is about shifting the power from the few to the majority of Ugandans.

“This election is very important. Come rain or shine, whether you are ill, go and vote. The people of Rukungiri are known to know what they want”.

Francis Mwijukye, the MP for Buhweju on his part noted that youths are at the forefront of tomorrow’s election and appealed them to guard it.

“We must ensure that on Wednesday (today) night, we witness the delivery of ballot boxes at the district, escort them to the sub county and to the polling station. Keep in groups of 10 and don’t leave the polling stations until the tallying is completed,” he said.

For the opposition, this election is yet another chace to expand their minimal representation in Parliament while for the NRM, it is to maintain political presence in what is considered one of the opposition strongholds in Uganda and to guard the majority they already enjoy in Parliament.

President Yoiweri Museveni, the NRM Chairman who arrived in Rukungiri on Monday also addressed final rallies on Tuesday to mobilize support for the party candidate, Winnie Matsiko.
