Former MP for Rwampara constituency in Mbarara district, Vincent Kyamadidi has been arrested by Police in Rukungiri for allegedly inciting violence and bribing voters.
Kyamadidi was arrested on Thursday from Nyarushanje sub county as voting for the district Woman MP by-election is ongoing.
The Deputy Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango who is in Rukungiri at the moment told SoftPower News in an interview that Kyamadidi of the opposition FDC was arrested for inciting violence at a polling station called Sayuni SDA Church.
“He was inciting violence at a polling station called Sayuni SDA Church in Nyarushanje. What we have on file is inciting and bribing voters,” Onyango said.
He said the suspect faces the offense of inciting violence.
Kyamadidi was transported to Ntungamo district where he is being detained at Ntungamo police station, according to the Police spokesperson.
Asked how exactly the former legislator was inciting violence, Onyango said he (Kyamadidi) was inciting people to disobey the electoral officials.
He revealed that 8 other people have so far been arrested over electoral related charges of inciting violence and voter bribery.
He said that all of the suspects are being detained at Ntungamo Police station.
Earlier today, Police arrested former Rukungiri district chairperson, Athanasius Rutaro from a polling station at Katobo in Nyakagyeme sub-county where he was allegedly giving out bribes to voters.

Onyango said Police had only saved Rutaro from possible mob action but that he was also being investigated.
As of 10am on Thursday, Onyango said Rutaro was being held at Rukungiri Police station.
