The Uganda Athletics Federation and the Uganda Olympic Committee were quick to celebrate the triumph, praising Chelangat for her dominant performance on the track. Images shared online show the jubilant athlete hoisting the national flag moments after crossing the finish line.

“This is the third gold medal for Uganda at the Games,” the Uganda Olympic Committee noted, congratulating Chelangat for her “remarkable and patriotic performance.”

Uganda’s participation in this year’s Games largely features up-and-coming young athletes, selected to build experience on the international stage. Their performances so far suggest a promising future for the nation’s sporting talent.

In another track event, Uganda’s Leonard Chemutai put on a commendable effort in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, finishing fourth in a competitive field.
