The Bakiga and other enthusiasts of the social-cultural festival ‘Bakiga Nation’ are warming up for yet another edition this Sunday.
The fest which brings together the Bakiga people of Kigezi to celebrate their culture and network will take place this Sunday December 6. This time, the venue has changed from the Naguru Hill Top gardens where the festival had found home for the last few years, to UMA show grounds in Lugogo.
In yet another first, the December edition will attract a Shs 10,000 gate fee unlike previous events that have been free. Nile Special has thrown its weight behind the event as sponsors.
Eddie Ntumwa, the publicist for the festival revealed that a number of activities have been lined up for the day and revellers coming in should expect the best.
“The sixth edition of this event as usual on the pretext of ‘Rukundo Egumeho’ will be a fun-filled event with massive showcase of culture from Kiga cultural troupes, music dance and dram, nyama choma and live band,” Ntumwa said.
He added that a special place has been designated for parents coming in with their children.
Singers like Shine Omukiga, Amaani Amakiga, Tamba and Afro-fusion band ‘Qwela’ are among the entertainers lined up to perform.
Over the years, the Bakiga festival has come to be a funfare affair that attracts not just Bakiga but fun-loving Kampalans from other traditions.
Typical of the Kigezi culture, the ‘enkyeka’ (gourd) has come to be one of the signature accessories for those attending Bakiga Nation festival.
