Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for attempting to attack the Bishop of Namirembe Diocese Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira during the Easter Sunday service.
The man identified as Kaddu Herbert, a resident of Malay Zone in Rubaga charged towards Bishop Luwalira while he was at the altar.
Video footage captured during the moment shows Kaddu running through the aisle dressed in a red shirt, a back cloth and with a stick in his right hand. However, he fell off while he tried to jump over the furtniture at the sanctuary. The priests and police officers then rushed in and dragged the defiant man out of the church.
SoftPower News has learnt that the suspect is now being held by Police at Namirembe Police post.
According to an account given by the Police, the suspect arrived at the church cruising in a super custom vehicle Reg No UAS 329T.
“We have in custody a man identified as Kaddu Herbert aged 35 years, a resident of Makay Zone Rubaga who allegedly forced himself into Namirembe Cathedral,” Kampala Metropolitan Police said in a statement posted on their social platforms on Sunday.
Kaddu will be charged with threatening violence.
“We are doing all it takes to find out his motives,” Police said.
According to Police, the suspect is believed to be mentally unstable and that he will be subjected to a medical examination to determine his mental sanity.
“If proven insane, he will be referred to a mental rehabilitation centre and if he is not, he will be charged criminally”.
