Police Name Victims of Ntungamo Accident as 3 More Perish in Buloba Crash

The police have named victims of the Friday, December 30, 2022, fatal accident at Rwahi (after Satellite Hotel) along Ntungamo-Kabale Road. The accident claimed the lives of six people.

The accident involved motor vehicle registration number RAD798B Hyundai bus, belonging to Volcano Bus Company, and motor vehicle registration number KCU054L (Scania) belonging to Oxygen Bus Company.

Murara Alphonse, a Rwandan driver of the Volcano bus, and Omido David, a Kenyan and the driver of the Oxygen bus both died on the spot.

The other four include Ishingiro Mustafa, a Rwandan; the conductor of the Oxygen bus identified as Gakulu Cloude; a Rwandan and the conductor of Volcano bus Hakizimana Etienne; a Rwandan passenger aboard Volcano bus, and a yet-to-be-identified Burundian female passenger who was aboard Oxygen bus.

According to ASP Faridah Nampiima, PRO Traffic, and Road Safety, an approximate number of 40 passengers whose particulars are yet to be established were rushed to Lotom Health Centre in Muhanga.

“The suspected cause of the accident has been attributed to reckless driving by the driver of Volcano bus, who, eyewitnesses say was from Kampala side but left his side and was driving from the right where he met an on-coming Oxygen bus from Kabale side whose driver tried to swerve to his extreme left in order to dodge the Volcano bus in vain thus head-on collision,” she said.

She added: “The bodies of the deceased have all been conveyed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.”

Meanwhile, the traffic police in Buloba have also registered a fatal accident at the Forest Park along Kampala-Mityana Road, which killed three people on the spot.

The accident involved four motor vehicles:  KBA 580V semi-trailer,  UBH 089R (Toyota Wish),   UBF 979V (Toyota Hilux),  UBH 008G (Toyota Harrier) and two motorcycles:  UEO 751Z and UEV 616M (Bajaj Boxers).

Three passengers of Toyota Wish died on spot. They included two women and one man, while three victims sustained injuries and were rushed to the nearby clinic for medical help.

“It’s alleged that motor vehicle reg no KBA 580V (semi-trailer) that was from Kampala heading to Mityana lost control and rammed into the Toyota Wish, killing three of its occupants and injuring another,” said ASP Nampiima.

She added: “It thereafter continued and rammed into the Toyota Hilux, Toyota Harrie and the Motorcycles. The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Mulago city mortuary for postmortem examination.”
