Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has commenced investigations into circumstances under which 23 out of 26 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) candidates of Mpasana Primary School in Kakumiro District missed writing the Mathematics Paper on November 8, 2022.
Before the fateful day, the pupils were studying at Christine Primary School which didn’t have a registration Number.
The school (Christine) registered the pupils at Mpasana Primary for their Examinations.
On the day they were supposed to sit their papers, the director of St Christine Primary School, Mr Pascal Asiimwe, promised to return with a van to chauffeur them to Mpasana Primary School.
However, he did not return and switched off his known phone numbers.
The pupils decided to walk approximately 15 kilometres away, arriving at Mpasana Primary one hour and 16 minutes late.
They found that the Mathematics exam had already commenced. The examination invigilators turned them away for late coming.
In a November 11 letter, UNEB Executive Secretary, Dan Odongo, said they received the information from the field officers and they are currently consulting with the District Education Officers.
“UNEB is consulting with the District Education Officials to ascertain the circumstances under which the learners missed the examination,” he said.
He added that the Board is also scheduling a meeting with the District Officials on this matter, after which, an appropriate decision will be made.
