Hoima — The newly constructed Hoima City Stadium has received a perfect five-star rating following an independent site assessment, marking a major milestone in Uganda’s preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According to Peter Ogwang, the Minister of State for Sports, the pitch achieved a flawless 115 out of 115 points, confirming that the facility meets top international standards across all key evaluation criteria.

“Following an independent site assessment conducted on 5th November 2025, the Hoima City Stadium pitch achieved a 5-star rating, scoring a perfect 115 out of 115 points,” Minister Ogwang said on Friday.

“The evaluation focused on three main performance categories—Playing Quality, Physical Quality, and Turf Quality. I thank all the stakeholders, including the contractor, SUMMA, for this landmark sports infrastructural milestone,” he added.

The 20,000-seater Hoima City Stadium and the adjacent 2,000-capacity Hoima City Arena were constructed at a combined cost of $130 million, fully financed through Uganda’s Petroleum Fund, managed by the Bank of Uganda.

The state-of-the-art facility will serve as one of the host venues when Uganda co-hosts AFCON 2027 alongside Kenya and Tanzania.

Hoima City Stadium is now 99% complete, with final touches being executed by SUUMA Construction Company. The state-of-the-art facility is expected to be commissioned soon by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The complex features a hybrid grass pitch, indoor sports facilities, a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a VVIP lounge, designed to meet CAF and FIFA requirements.

The stadium has a VAR room, a FIFA office, and an indoor general serving area to support smooth operations during matches and ensure a top-notch experience for players, officials, and fans.

The stadium comprises an outdoor rugby field, a tennis field, and an indoor basketball arena with clear nightlines giving fans a premium viewing experience.

Sports analysts say the successful completion of Hoima City Stadium represents a significant step forward for Uganda’s sports infrastructure.
