The Tororo district COVID-19 Taskforce has closed over 20 shops in Tororo town for flouting the Standard Operating Procedures-SOPs meant to contain the spread of COVID-19. The district task force closed the shops on Monday afternoon in an operation to crack down on businesses flouting the SOPs.

Yahaya Were, the Tororo District Deputy Resident District Commissioner, who is the acting Task Force Chairperson and acting Tororo District Police Commander, Kasim Matovu led the operation. Were explained that the crackdown was meant to enforce the president’s directive in his nationwide address on Sunday night meant to contain the new wave of COVID-19.

In a similar incident, the Butaleja District Resident District Commissioner, Stanley Bayooles also led an operation to crackdown on businesses and people flouting Covid-19 SOPs. The police backed operations mainly took place in Busolwe Market where two video halls were found operating contrary to the Presidential directives banning any kind of social gatherings.

The team confiscated the machines used in the two video halls as the operators ran away. The team also impounded taxis that were found carrying beyond the stipulated number of passengers. URN
