One person has been confirmed dead following an accident in which a race car ran over people during a rally at Busika grounds on Sunday.
Videos posted on social media show a car that was part of the race losing control and ramming into spectators who were watching the race. Shortly after, a number of those who were ran over could be seen lying helplessly as the onlookers who came to their rescue fanned them.
Initially, the number of fatalities from the accident was unknown. But Police later on Sunday said one person was dead and other 9 injured.
“Busiika motor rally accident. One confirmed dead and nine injured,” Police tweeted.
Police said that the injured persons were rushed to Mulago, Nsambya hospitals and Kasana Luwero health centre.
According to the account given by Police, the rally driver was trying to save the life of a thief who had stolen a mobile phone.
