Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party women leaders have been granted a Shs1m cash bail each.
The six women leaders are; MP Hon Adeke Anna, Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura, Wokuri Madanda, Nanyonjo Susan, Miriam Kizito and Amony Alice.
They were arrested last week for protesting against high commodity prices and continued detention of opposition figure Dr Kizza Besigye.
FDC members and supporters Tuesday broke into chants inside the Law Development Centre (LDC courtroom) where the six women appeared for a bail hearing.
They demanded for the release of all political prisoners.
The magistrate further remanded them until bail is fulfilled.
The matter was adjourned to June 22 at 10am for mention of the case.
Their lawyer and Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, noted that the state is using the court of law to frustrate Ugandans.
“What if these activists couldn’t afford Shs6m then it would led to getting remanded again and abuse or their rights. This must stop,” he stated outside court.
Some of the activists present during the bail hearing included; Patricia Munabi, Flavia Kalule, Joyce Bagala, Andrew Karamagi, Brian Atuhaire, among others.
FDC Party President Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat, Hon. Ssemujju Nganda, Wafula Oguttu, Deputy Secretary Harold Kaija, Hon. Kabuusu Moses, Makerere University students etc were also present.
