The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party has endorsed Andrew Ojok Oulanyah, the son of the late Speaker Jacob Oulanyah, as its flag bearer for Omoro County by-election.
This was during a special meeting of Omoro leaders with President Museveni, who doubles as the NRM chairman, on Tuesday.
All aspirants from NRM stepped down in favour of Ojok.
A total of six members had expressed interest to contest in the Omoro County Parliamentary seat.
They are; Omoro District Chairperson Douglas Peter Okello, Andrew Olal, Francis Rwotlonyo, Richard Bongowat Luganya, and Ben Acellam.
However, President Museveni ordered all NRM contestants to step down for Ojok.
The Electoral Commission announced May 26, 2022 as the date for Omoro County Parliamentary by-election.
The Omoro County MP seat fell vacant following the death of former Speaker Oulanyah who had occupied it from 2001 to 2005 and then from 2011 to 2022.
