Kampala — The National Information Technology Authority–Uganda has provided a boost to government communication systems after officially handing over a set of laptops to the Uganda Media Centre to enhance digital content production and information dissemination.
The handover was conducted by the National Information Technology Authority–Uganda (NITA-U) as part of efforts to strengthen the use of ICT in delivering timely and accurate public information.
The event was officiated by State Minister for ICT and National Guidance Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga, alongside NITA-U Executive Director Hatwib Mugasa and Uganda Media Centre Executive Director Alan Kasujja.
According to NITA-U, the initiative is aimed at improving efficiency in government communication and ensuring that Uganda’s development agenda is shared more effectively through modern digital platforms.
In a statement, the authority said: “In a move aimed at enhancing the effective utilisation of ICT in delivering timely and accurate information to the nation, NITA-Uganda officially handed over a set of laptops to the Uganda Media Centre.”
Officials emphasised that equipping media institutions with modern ICT tools is critical in supporting faster content production and improved public information services.

Minister Kabbyanga highlighted the importance of digital readiness in government communication, noting that ICT remains central to national development and service delivery.
The initiative forms part of the Uganda Digital Acceleration Project (UDAP-GovNet), which seeks to expand digital infrastructure and improve connectivity across government institutions.
NITA-U said: “By equipping media institutions with modern digital tools, NITA-U is supporting improved efficiency, content production, and dissemination, ensuring that Uganda’s development story is communicated with greater precision, speed, and impact.”
The authority added that UDAP-GovNet is a key component of Uganda’s broader digital transformation agenda aimed at building a more connected, efficient, and citizen-focused public service.
The Uganda Media Centre welcomed the support, noting that the equipment will strengthen its capacity to deliver timely government communication in an increasingly digital media environment.
