The new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abbas Byakagaba, and his deputy, James Ochaya have assumed their new offices.
The handover/takeover ceremony was held at the Force’s headquarters in Naguru, Kampala on Tuesday.
The ceremony was presided over by Internal Affairs Minister, Hon Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire, assisted by his State Minister, Gen David Muhoozi.
The former Deputy IGP Maj Gen Geoffrey Tumusiime Katsigazi handed over the IGP office on behalf of former IGP Martin Okoth Ochola.
“What I’m taking over is a very serious responsibility, but I’m very confident we are going to deliver,” said IGP Byakagaba.
In his speech, Rtd Maj Gen Otafiire advised the new Inspector General of Police not to beat opposition leaders.
Byakagaba and Ochaya were appointed to these positions during a police reshuffle this month.
