He said, “We have to look for funds in different directions to see our priority issues are met, we want to rebuild this place, put up a new building for the National Theatre. Our plan is to put up the most iconic building in Kampala, whereby even if someone is flying over Kampala, they can easily tell that that’s the National Theatre.”

“For now, we are looking at financing options, be a private public partnership or government sponsorship, whichever works for us. Currently, we are talking to different private people to understand how best they can come in because we need to sell them a proposal that is feasible.”

Robert Musiitwa, the UNCC Public Relations Manager He noted that the plans to redevelop the theater have been in place for a while, however, they have been facing financial challenges.

“This year we will be celebrating 65 years of existence. Trust you me at 65 you’ve served your purpose, you need something new which will be able to take care of that. We need something that will be able to appeal to the modern world, create art spaces that can be able to serve our sector like auditoriums, Audio Visual Studios, among others,” he said.

Commenting on stakeholders meeting, he said the main focus was to make sure that they move in the right direction “as we serve and grow the arts and culture sector. “

“It’s important to understand the mind of the people that you serve. And it’s also paramount for them to understand the steps that you’ve made to make sure that you do the right things and you move into the right direction is also an opportunity for us to to be able to focus the stakeholders and also share with them, the mind of the government and the programs of the government,” he said.
