Kampala, Uganda – November 13, 2024—The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance has announced the 3rd edition of the highly anticipated National ICT Job Fair, scheduled to take place from November 21st to 22nd at the National ICT Innovation Hub in Nakawa, Kampala.
The National ICT Job Fair is a flagship event aimed at connecting young professionals, students, and job seekers with leading employers and industry experts, providing a dynamic platform for career exploration, skill development, and job opportunities. Under the theme “Shaping Uganda’s Digital Future: Bridging Skills, Innovation, and Opportunity,” this year’s edition will offer a variety of workshops, career panels, networking opportunities, and hands-on interactive labs that focus on Uganda’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The Job fair’s success continues to be supported by Huawei Technologies Uganda, whose ongoing partnership has been instrumental in previous editions. Their commitment to the event ensures a comprehensive line-up of activities, including company booths, resume reviews, and professional development talks designed to empower Uganda’s workforce for the digital age.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Aminah Zawedde noted that “Digital skills are at the heart of Uganda’s digital transformation agenda. They are the engine driving economic growth, creating jobs, enhancing education, and improving access to essential services. As we embrace e-services, data management, and digital literacy, we enhance financial inclusion, foster civic engagement, and empower communities. According to the National Planning Authority (NPA), the ICT services have continued to grow at an average growth rate of 14.8%.”
Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister for ICT and National Guidance, highlighted the key role the ICT sector plays in Uganda’s growth: “The ICT sector is pivotal in bridging the unemployment gap. It has witnessed remarkable growth, thanks to the government’s efforts to create a conducive environment for its development. Investments in ICT infrastructure and initiatives like the National ICT Initiatives Support Programme (NIISP) have propelled this sector forward. To bridge this gap and unlock the potential of our youth, the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, in collaboration with Huawei Technologies Uganda and other stakeholders, have organized the 3rd Edition of the National ICT Job Fair, after two successful events in the previous years. This will go a long way in promoting Uganda’s ICT growth.”
The two-day Job fair promises to deliver a robust program that includes:
Career Panels: Industry leaders and experts from ICT, healthcare, finance, and more will discuss emerging trends, career paths, and the essential skills needed to succeed.
Workshops and Seminars: Practical workshops covering interview strategies, personal branding, ICT career pathways, and skills such as cybersecurity and coding.
Mock Interviews and Resume Reviews: Attendees will have the opportunity to receive real-time feedback on their resumes and practice interview skills.
Networking Sessions: Speed networking and meet-and-greet opportunities with top employers, government representatives, and industry experts.
Interactive Labs and Demonstrations: Hands-on experiences in coding challenges, virtual reality, and ICT innovation.
This year’s fair builds upon the success of previous editions, offering an enhanced program designed to address the changing demands of the global job market. The National ICT Job Fair is more than just a recruitment event—it is a key initiative that empowers Uganda’s youth by equipping them with the skills, resources, and connections needed to thrive in the digital economy. The event will play a critical role in helping young Ugandans bridge the skills gap, explore emerging job opportunities, and position themselves for success in Uganda’s growing ICT sector.
