If tequila needed a personality, there are chances it would be bold, very opinionated and not afraid of being misunderstood. From the outlandish ways some of the serves are made to the rituals- for instance, the skull shot glasses, popularised by the Halloween-themed parties, especially for their visual appeal- the drinkware has managed to spread its relevance beyond the days it was meant to celebrate.
On Sunday evening, this drinkware made yet another rare appearance at the Tequila Sundowner, hosted in partnership with Don Julio on the Mediterraneo Restaurant Rooftop in Kololo. The daytime party kicked off at 2 pm and ran into the night, with music, food, tequila and signature cocktails as people shook off the final Sunday of September.
“As Don Julio, we are committed to giving our consumers the best experiences. We love to see our consumers toast to small and big achievements with friends, which was the thought behind the bottle designs of our tequila ranges; for people to see each other and have fun while having tequila,” said Judie Nandekya, Senior Brand Manager, Tequila and Rum, East Africa.
But there was more to the evening: the Sinodevassy Band was a surprise, and yet, one of the day’s highlights. The semi-live set that brought together a saxophone, drums and a DJ mix into a sequence was a marvel, whether one was into dancing or listening.
The performers list also included renowned DJs- Selector Jay, DJ Anselm and DJ Litto.
When the night’s headliner, Paris-based DJ Phaphane, took to the stage, the party hit its peak. The electronic music artist/DJ, widely known for popularising Amapiano and Afro-dance music in Europe, fuses Amapiano, Afro House and Gqom into his sets, was live in Kampala.
So it wasn’t surprising that when he took to the decks, he knew how to get his audience on their feet; from catchy choruses that invite a sing-along to anthems with dance moves already known, his set was a class act. For a moment, he had his audience work twice as hard, balancing dancing with posting the moment for the gram. By the time the night came to a close, the city’s high rollers and beauties had had the time of their lives.
