Kampala, April 8, 2026 — Uganda Media Centre has announced that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will be sworn in for a seventh term on May 12, 2026, following his victory in the recently concluded general elections.
In a special announcement shared on its official platforms, the Media Centre confirmed that the inauguration ceremony will take place at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, marking the start of a new five-year mandate.
Museveni secured 71.65 percent of the vote in the January 2026 elections, defeating his closest challenger Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, who garnered 24 percent.
The 2026 inauguration will be held under the theme: “Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status.”
According to the statement signed by Executive Director Alan Kasujja, the government will prioritise economic acceleration, industrialisation, and household income growth in the new term.
A National Organising Committee has been established to oversee preparations for the event, chaired by Yunus Kakande, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President.
Officials say the ceremony is expected to attract several heads of state and high-level dignitaries from across the globe, highlighting Uganda’s diplomatic ties.
Security agencies have also assured the public of tight arrangements to ensure a peaceful event, with plans in place to manage the large crowds anticipated at Kololo.
The 2026 election result marks the first time in nearly three decades that Museveni has surpassed the 70 percent mark, a level last achieved in 1996.
In his earlier victory remarks, the President pledged to focus on key priorities, including economic growth, expansion of the Parish Development Model (PDM), youth skilling programmes, and strengthening regional security in the Great Lakes region.
