Kyotera — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag bearer for the 2026 general elections, has called on Ugandans to vote wisely, urging them to support leaders and policies that deliver tangible results rather than empty promises.

The President made the remarks while addressing thousands of NRM supporters at a campaign rally held at St. James Secondary School playground in Kyotera District, where he was accompanied by senior party leaders to present the NRM manifesto to the electorate.

“When I ask you to support the NRM, it is because this party does not make empty promises,” President Museveni said, adding that the NRM manifesto is anchored in the party’s proven record of delivery.

He outlined what he described as the NRM’s seven key contributions to Uganda, starting with peace. The President noted that Uganda’s stability over the past four decades did not come by accident but was achieved through an ideology that rejects sectarian politics based on tribe, religion or gender.

“Uganda has been peaceful for the last 40 years because we rejected politics of identity and focused on politics of interests,” he said.

The second contribution, according to the President, is development through economic and social infrastructure. He cited the construction of major roads such as Masaka–Bukakata and Sembabule, and pledged to upgrade additional routes, including Kyotera, Mutukula, Kyapa and Kasensero, as outlined in the NRM manifesto.

Wealth creation was identified as the third pillar. President Museveni noted that at independence in 1962, only four per cent of Ugandan households were engaged in money-based economic activities, while the majority depended on subsistence farming.

He said this changed after the NRM came to power through the introduction of programs such as Operation Wealth Creation, NAADS, Entandikwa, Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM).

He reiterated the four-acre model, encouraging households to combine commercial farming, food production, livestock, poultry, piggery and fish farming as a pathway out of poverty.

On job creation, the President cautioned Ugandans against overreliance on government employment, noting that the public service employs only about 480,000 people. He urged citizens to tap into opportunities in the private sector and manufacturing.

He cited the growth of industrial parks, including Sino-Mbale and Namanve, which together employ tens of thousands of workers, and pledged to establish an industrial park at Lukoma Field. He also promised to expand Presidential Industrial Skilling Hubs from 19 to 38 to equip more youth with practical skills. The President later handed over NRM flags to party flag bearers in Kyotera District.

Speaker of Parliament and NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among thanked Kyotera residents for their continued support, urging them to vote for NRM leaders capable of delivering services.

NRM Vice Chairperson for Central Buganda, Hon. Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune, and Kyotera District NRM Chairperson, Mr Christopher Kalemba, also commended President Museveni for his leadership and the impact of government programs on education, health and wealth creation in the district.
