President Museveni has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to revoke police bonds granted to officials implicated in corrupt practices related to the Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries in the Lango sub-region.
The directive, announced through a statement on the President’s official Twitter (X) account, is a decisive move to combat corruption within the ranks of local officials.
He reiterated his unwavering commitment to ensuring that public officials uphold their responsibilities and act in the best interest of the Ugandan people.
The action follows the President’s recent visit to the Lango sub-region and the damning report by the late Brig. Gen. Charles Oluka (RIP), dated 25 January 2025. The report detailed shocking cases of extortion from PDM beneficiaries by corrupt officials, prompting the President to take immediate action against those involved.
“I have directed the IGP to cancel those Police bonds and make sure that they are tried. Any official who does not do his duty in prosecuting those thieves (suspected) will be held accountable,” he stated.
He added: “Any official who does not do their duty in prosecuting those thieves (suspected) will be held accountable.”
The President’s directive is aimed at restoring public confidence in governance and protecting the rights of vulnerable PDM beneficiaries. This move signals the government’s unwavering stance against corruption, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and integrity within public institutions.
The Parish Development Model (PDM) is a flagship government programme designed to alleviate poverty at the grassroots level by empowering local communities through financial support and development initiatives.
However, the scheme has been marred by reports of mismanagement and corruption, undermining its intended impact.
President Museveni’s latest directive is expected to strengthen accountability measures and ensure that justice is served for those who have suffered due to corrupt practices.
The government has reaffirmed its determination to fight corruption at all levels, sending a strong warning to officials who attempt to misuse public resources.
