President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni welcomed the President of the Republic of Togo, H.E. Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, to State Lodge Nakasero for a high-level meeting aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two nations.

The two leaders held cordial discussions centred on matters of mutual interest, with a particular focus on regional security and strengthening bilateral relations.

President Museveni underscored the need for greater African unity in addressing shared security concerns and promoting sustainable development across the continent.

“Tackling the challenges facing our continent requires solidarity, collaboration, and a common vision,” President Museveni noted during the talks.

Togo, a West African nation bordered by Ghana and Benin, has a population of approximately 9.5 million. The visit reflects growing interest in fostering stronger ties between East and West Africa, particularly in areas of diplomacy, trade, and security.

The meeting was also attended by prominent Ugandan leaders, including Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi, former Prime Minister; Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries; Gen. Jeje Odongo, Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Amb. Joseph Ocwet, Director General of the External Security Organisation (ESO).

The Togolese delegation included Mr Robert Dussey, Togo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, among other senior officials.

This engagement marks a step forward in deepening Uganda–Togo relations and aligns with broader continental goals under the African Union framework.
