President Museveni has directed that the Umukuka Emeritus of Inzu Ya Masaba, Wilson Wamimbi, be given an official burial.
Wamimbi died on April 12, 2024 at Kirudu Hospital in Kawempe – Kampala.
“The Government of Uganda sincerely commiserates with the family, Bugisu Community and the rest of Ugandans on the passing away of Umukuka Emeritus Wilson Wamimbi, who was a noble leader of high stature of integrity and a unifier among the Bugisu Community,” said the government spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo.
“The Umukuka Emeritus Wilson Wamimbi will be deeply missed not only by those who knew him; worked with him; were led by him; but also by those who had a Political as well as Leadership Career to learn from him.”
He added: “Accordingly, H.E Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in line with Article 99 of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda as amended which vests Executive Authority of Uganda in the President; has therefore directed that the Umukuka Emeritus Wilson Wamimbi be accorded an Official Burial.”
The late Wamimbi was born in 1938 in Busano Sub-County – Mbale District.
He went to Nabumali High School and trained as a teacher at Kyambogo College before joining Makerere University where he graduated with a Degree in Marketing.
He worked as a Marketing Officer with Bugisu Cooperative Union and later joined politics in the 1990s.
He served as District Chairman of Mbale District and Uganda’s Ambassador to Canada before becoming the first cultural leader of the Bamasaba.
Later in 2010, he was elected as the first Cultural Leader of ‘Inzu ya Masaba’ for five years.
He will be buried on Saturday 20th April 2024 in Mbale district, according to the National Organizing Committee Chaired by the Minister for Presidency – Hon. Milly Babirye Babalanda with representatives from the family.
