KAMPALA – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to begin a two-day official visit to the United Republic of Tanzania on Wednesday, a trip aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and advancing regional cooperation between the two East African Community (EAC) partner states.

The visit, scheduled for August 5–6, 2026, is being coordinated by Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation. Official posters released by the ministry welcomed President Museveni ahead of his arrival, signalling high-level engagements between the two governments.

The visit is expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in regional integration, trade, infrastructure development, energy and security, areas that have become central to relations between Uganda and Tanzania.

Among the flagship projects expected to feature in discussions is the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), a 1,443-kilometre pipeline that will transport crude oil from Uganda’s Albertine Graben to Tanzania’s Port of Tanga for export to international markets. The project remains one of the largest joint infrastructure investments undertaken by the two countries.

Uganda and Tanzania also cooperate closely through the East African Community on initiatives aimed at boosting cross-border trade, improving transport connectivity and strengthening peace and security across the region.

President Museveni’s visit comes as both countries continue implementing regional infrastructure projects and expanding economic partnerships intended to accelerate development and deepen integration within the EAC.

According to Tanzanian authorities, further details on the programme, including bilateral talks, official ceremonies and any agreements or joint communiqués, will be released as the visit progresses.
