President of the Republic of Uganda and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has appointed Maj Gen Abel Kandiho, the former Chief of Military Intelligece (CMI), as the Chief of Joint Staff of Uganda Police Force.
According to a statement issued by the acting Defence Spokesperson, Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu, Kandiho replaces Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba who has been appointed the Ugandan Delegate to the South Sudan Peace Monitoring Mechanism.
President Museveni had on January 25, 2022 appointed Kandiho as the Ugandan Delegate to the South Sudan Peace Monitoring Mechanism an appointment which has been reversed.
Gen Kandiho, credited for neutralizing and bursting a number of terror cells in the country, brings a wealth of experience and expertise in counter terrorism, successful intelligence-led operations and investigations to the Police force.
Maj Gen Kandiho served at CMI as an officer and later its head.
He had previously served as the Commander of Military Police headquartered at Makindye Military Barracks.
