Ugandan artist Mungu Feni has been crowned Best Gospel Artist Content Creator of the Year at the 2026 Africa Content Creators Awards [ACCA], held on July 16 in Kigali, Rwanda.

Born Bernard Feni, the Arua-based singer beat a competitive continental lineup. Feni’s category was one of the most contested on the night. He saw off Nigeria’s Gaise Baba, known for fusing faith with Afrobeat; Rwanda’s Chryso Ndasingwa, a worship leader with a massive YouTube following; Rwanda’s Meddy, who has built a cross-border gospel and R&B audience; and Kenya’s Bella Kombo, a rising voice in East African gospel content.

The win marks another milestone for the singer whose music career has grown supersonically.

The ACCA gala, brought together hundreds of artists, creators, industry leaders and fans to celebrate storytelling across the continent. Organizers said the awards exist to “spotlight the exceptional talent shaping digital narratives across Africa through community-driven voting and expert curation.”

Feni dedicated the award to his supporters.
“I don’t take this for granted. To every fan who voted, who streamed, who shared my music from Kampala to West, East and South Central Africa, the whole of Africa, this is yours,” he said.

“I’m just a vessel. All the glory goes to God. Thank you for believing in a boy from West Nile when I had no stage, no concert, just songs and faith. We are going to do more for God and for the people.”

Industry observers noted that the win underscores how digital distribution is leveling the playing field for artists outside traditional music hubs like Lagos, Nairobi and Johannesburg.

Despite not having staged a major public concert, Feni has built an international audience from his studio in Uganda. His songs are on Spotify, YouTube, Audiomack, Boomplay, SoundCloud and Shazam, where he has surpassed 3 million streams. He also ranks consistently among Uganda’s top gospel artists.

His music rotates on Trace Gospel, Trace Mziki, Trace Naija, TBN Africa and Pearl Magic, among other channels, a reach that has at times led new listeners to mistake him for a West African artist.

The ACCA trophy adds to a growing list of recognitions. Earlier this year, Feni was named Artist of the Year at the Prestigious Personalities Awards 2026 by Feleb Concepts Multimedia in Ghana.

In 2025/2026, he also won Best New Star Gospel Artist at the Shining Stars Africa Awards.

Beyond music, Feni is the founder of Euro Gold and leads the Mungu Feni Foundation in West Nile. The NGO was named Best Community Transformation Organisation in East Africa at the East Africa Brand Quality Awards, and won three awards at the 2025 West Nile Quality Brand Awards for work with youth and vulnerable communities.

Known for what fans call “soul-stirring” gospel, Feni says his mission is to pair music with service.

“This award tells me people are listening, and more importantly, they are being touched,” he told reporters backstage. “My prayer is that we use these platforms to inspire, to heal, and to point people back to hope.”
