KAMPALA — MTN Uganda has launched MTN TV by AfroMobile, a new digital entertainment platform offering customers access to more than 60 live television channels, 53 radio stations, movies, sports, news and African original content across multiple devices.
The platform was officially unveiled in Kampala in the presence of MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Mulinge, Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Director of Corporate Affairs Fred Otunnu, AfroMobile General Manager Kevin Kaija and Ugandan content creators.
MTN said the platform is designed to give customers greater flexibility over what they watch, when they watch it and the device they use.

MTN TV by AfroMobile is accessible through smartphones, tablets, smart TVs and web browsers, bringing television, radio and on-demand entertainment together on a single platform.
Speaking at the launch, Mulinge said changing consumer habits were driving MTN’s expansion beyond traditional voice and data services.
“Entertainment has become an integral part of our customers’ digital lives,” she said, adding that customers increasingly expect more than connectivity and want seamless access to entertainment, financial services, education and other digital experiences.

“Today marks another important milestone in MTN Uganda’s journey. MTN TV is much more than a streaming platform. It is a platform for opportunity,” Mulinge said.
She said the platform would create additional opportunities for Ugandan broadcasters, filmmakers, musicians and other content creators to reach wider audiences while giving customers access to both local and international content.
The platform includes live television and radio, movies, sports, news, children’s programming and African stories, positioning it as a broad digital entertainment service rather than a conventional television offering.
Boost for Uganda’s creative industry
UCC Director of Corporate Affairs Fred Otunnu welcomed the launch, saying digital platforms such as MTN TV could contribute to the growth of Uganda’s creative economy.

He said the ability to distribute local content to larger audiences could create new opportunities for creators to showcase and monetise their work.
“The next phase of Uganda’s digital transformation is ensuring that connectivity translates into services that create value for citizens and support socio-economic development,” Otunnu said.
He said UCC supports innovations that expand access to quality digital content while creating value for Ugandan creators, businesses and consumers.

The platform could provide another distribution channel for Ugandan films, television programmes, music and other locally produced content at a time when creators are increasingly looking beyond traditional broadcasters for audiences.
One platform, multiple services
Kevin Kaija, General Manager of AfroMobile, said the partnership with MTN was built around giving consumers greater control over their entertainment choices.
“We dared to dream BIG. What was different about our vision was that we wanted our customer to have the power of choice on one single platform,” Kaija said.
He invited Uganda’s creative and broadcasting industry to view MTN TV by AfroMobile as a platform for collaboration and shared growth.

MTN said the service brings more than 60 television channels and 53 radio stations together with other entertainment offerings, including sports, movies, news and African originals.
The company is positioning the platform as part of its wider transformation from a telecommunications provider into a technology company offering digital services beyond traditional connectivity.
For consumers, the service represents another shift towards on-demand and mobile entertainment, allowing users to access content across different screens rather than relying solely on conventional television sets.

For Uganda’s creative sector, the platform could also provide another avenue for local productions to reach audiences inside the country and potentially beyond its borders.
MTN said the launch reflects its broader ambition to use digital platforms to create value for customers while supporting Uganda’s transition towards a more digitally driven economy.
