KAMPALA – Mogo Uganda recently donated furniture and scholastic materials to Kiswa Primary School in Bugolobi as part of its ongoing ESG initiatives aimed at supporting education and uplifting communities.

The donation, which includes 40 chairs, 102 box files, waiting chairs, reams of paper, books, and pens, will directly benefit over 1,700 pupils in the primary section and more than 230 children in the school’s Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre. Kiswa Primary School is a government-aided school located in Nakawa Division. It serves as a feeder school and caters to children from low-income households in surrounding areas such as Kasokoso, Giza Giza, and Mbiya.

Uganda has made strong progress in expanding access to primary education since the introduction of Universal Primary Education (UPE) in 1997. Primary school enrolment has grown to over 11 million pupils nationwide, with the large majority attending government-aided schools. This has helped increase literacy rates and achieve gender parity in enrolment.

However, many public schools still face significant challenges. Overcrowded classrooms, high pupil-to-teacher ratios of around 60:1 or higher in government-aided schools, and shortages of furniture, learning materials, and other infrastructure remain common. These issues affect the quality of learning, with many children struggling to achieve basic literacy and numeracy skills. Additional support from partners like Mogo Uganda helps complement government efforts, improve learning environments, and contribute to the national goal of building strong human capital as outlined in Uganda’s National Development Plan.

Douglas Kikonyogo, Marketing and Communications Manager at Mogo Uganda, said: “The handover is part of our ESG initiatives and a contribution towards the education sector in Uganda. We believe this will enable the children at Kiswa Primary School to have a firm foundation for not only their education but also their future careers. Our core values remain to contribute towards the community, uplift those in need, as well as support those that need our services. We hope to create an impact and leave a mark on the future generation.”

David Esuku, Education Manager at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), who attended the handover, noted the wider importance of the gesture: “What you have done today may appear small at first glance, but its impact is truly significant. These forty chairs will greatly enhance the learning environment in this school. Creating a conducive space for children to learn is one of our key quality indicators. … We believe that if we want to build anything beautiful and lasting for this country, we must invest in our children.”

Aisha Namaganda Ntege, Headteacher of Kiswa Primary School, expressed her appreciation for the support: “Our children are coming from low economic status homes… Whatever items you have donated to us, we are going to use them, and we are also going to inform other friends of what we have received from Mogo. … Thank you so much for coming and may God bless you.”

The donated items will help improve classroom comfort, organisation, and access to basic learning resources for the school’s large student population. Mogo Uganda’s contribution aligns with national efforts to strengthen human capital development through quality education.

This donation reflects Mogo Uganda’s commitment to making a positive and lasting difference in the communities it serves.
