KAMPALA, Uganda — The 52nd birthday run for Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has raised over Shs1 billion, with proceeds set to support charitable causes across the country.
In a message shared after the event, Gen Muhoozi confirmed the milestone, saying: “I’m happy to announce that we raised over 1 billion Uganda shillings during the birthday run. I shall soon announce the charities we shall support and hand over cheques to them. Thank you all for your support.”
The charity run, held on April 26, 2026, at Kololo Independence Grounds, attracted thousands of participants and widespread backing from the government, private-sector players, and supporters.
Organised under the theme “Run for Charity, Run for Hope,” the event was positioned as both a celebration of Gen Muhoozi’s birthday and a platform for mobilising resources to support vulnerable communities, particularly children in need.

In the lead-up to the run, several institutions and individuals contributed significant funds, boosting momentum for what has become one of the country’s most visible charity-driven public events. For instance, the Uganda Communications Commission contributed Shs20 million, while other donors, including political and business figures, also pledged support.
Authorities also implemented traffic management measures around Kololo to accommodate the large turnout, underscoring the scale of participation and national interest in the event.
Organisers say the funds raised will support vulnerable groups, including children in baby homes and other disadvantaged communities, aligning with broader efforts to promote social welfare through public mobilisation initiatives.
The announcement of beneficiary charities is expected in the coming days, as organisers prepare to distribute the funds and provide further details on how the money will be utilised.
