The Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Dr Ruth Nankabirwa, led a Ugandan delegation to the Republic of Tanzania for an EACOP tour. The delegation held a high-level stakeholder meeting at the Ministry of Energy in Dar es Salaam, bringing together representatives from Uganda and Tanzania.
The meeting aimed to advance coordination and preparations for Uganda’s first oil under the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Project. The Ugandan delegation included key officials such as Eng Geoffrey Ogwang, Acting Commissioner, Midstream Department, and Eng Herbert Mugizi, Acting Commissioner and EACOP Project Coordinator.
Mathias Katamba, Board Chairman, Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), Zulaika Mirembe Kasaija, Board Chair, National Pipeline Company (NPC), John Bosco Habomugisha, Deputy Managing Director, EACOP and Tony Otoa, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, UNOC.
The Tanzanian side was led by Hon Deogratius Ndejembi, Minister for Energy, accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Energy and other agencies.
The stakeholder engagement provided an update on the EACOP Project, which as of December 2025, stood at 79% completion. Participants reviewed progress on the pipeline, above-ground installations, marine terminal facilities in Tanga, and supporting infrastructure.
Minister Ndejembi reaffirmed Tanzania’s commitment to supporting the timely delivery of EACOP, highlighting its importance as a regional integration initiative.
Dr Nankabirwa acknowledged the project’s challenges but emphasized the strong political leadership and cooperation between the two countries.
She invited Minister Ndejembi to visit Uganda to observe progress at key facilities and revealed that Tanzania will host Uganda and partners in October for the project’s commissioning, marking a major milestone in the EACOP journey.
