Uganda People’s Defence Forces has spoken out on the arrest of 30 murder suspects in the weekend military led operation following leads into the investigation of the murder of Case Hospital Accountant Francis Ekalungar.
Francis Ekulangar’s murder shocked Uganda when his brutal death was confirmed by a forensics report after the deceased’s body was found burnt and dumped in Kajjansi.
Lt Col Deo Akiiki, the Deputy Defence Spokesperson has said in a statement that the suspects were arrested in joint efforts by security agencies “acting on very reliable information.”
“On Friday 19 2018, an operation was conducted to arrest one of the suspects Mr. Kiwalabye Huzairu. In the process, there were attempts by some sympathisers to obstruct the arrest. However, this was overcome,” Lt Col Deo stated.
The Col said that Kitatta’s brother, Huzair Kiwalabye revealed details that led to the arrest of the rest of the suspects as “investigators found a need to make further arrests.”
Akiiki Deo added that the “search was conducted following leads from the arrested suspects and the vehicle Registration Number UAW 899U Toyota Premio in which the late Francis Ekalugar was kidnaped was recovered with altered number plate to UAT 764L.”
Those arrested include Abdul Kitatta, Mawa Muzamiru, a driver of Dr Ssebale Kato – the Case hospital boss; Kitatta’s brother Kiwalabye Huzairu, two Congolese nationals Muhindo and Bizimani David at whose residence Ekulangar’s vehicle was recovered.
Others detained at Kireka Police Post according to the Defence Spokesman include Sunday Ssemogerere Kiseka, Assaf Barigye, Saddam Ssemogerere, Joel Kibirige, Hassan Ssengoba, John Ssebandeke, Fred Bwanika, Hassan Ssengoba and Kayondo Johnathan.
Also listed as detained by the statement are Lukyamuzi Enock, Thomas Kyamudali, John Kiddugavu, Godfrey Kasirye, Amon Twinomujuni, Frank Makumbi and one Lawrence.
Others are Hassan Ssebatta, Shaban Kirya, Joseph Nsindazi, Sowali Ngobi, Hassan Ssebatta Thomas Arinaitwe, Ibrahim Ssekaja, Frank Ssozi, Shaban Kirya, Hussein Mugema and Joram Kagajju.
