Former Soroti Municipality MP, Mike Mukula has offered to extend an olive branch to disgraced musician, Qute Kaye, a day after the once popular singer was caught stealing.
Qute Kaye who sang ‘Jinkese’ a popular song many years ago has been out of the spotlight for a long while. However, he made headlines yesterday after news emerged that he had been caught stealing headlights from someone’s vehicle in Kyengera.
In one of the photos taken after the embarrassing incident, Kaye could be seen seated and holding the headlight which he had plucked out of a Toyota Harrier. He was shortly arrested and released after some of his friends intervened.
Police said he pleaded guilty and asked for forgiveness.
It now turns out that politician and businessman, Mike Mukula is willing to support efforts to have the singer rehabilitated.
Mukula tweeted on Friday: “This young man with talent got desperate un employed and with no source of income in the city”.
“As a Patron of uganda musicians’ Association, I have instructed the Chairman and others to secure his release. We will rehabilitate him,” he added.
Mukula’s gesture has won him wide acclamation from Ugandans on social media who praised his act of kindness. But some said there are several other celebrities who have lost their fame to drug problems and require help.
This is not the first time Qute Kaye has been associated with theft. Reports allege that sometime last year when renowned Pastor Robert Kayanja of the Miracle Centre Cathedral took Kaye in to help him turn a fresh page in his life, the singer later stole some items including a laptop.
Meanwhile, Pastor Kayanja has reacted to Qute Kaye’s embarrassing situation yesterday asking Ugandans not to be quick to judge the singer.
