Charles Muwonge, a car mechanic from Wakiso district, has won the sleek Toyota Rav 4 Hybrid 2024 Model.
Muwonge was awarded the car at the close of Airtel’s #VroomulaAmajja campaign held at Media Park in Naguru on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.
He also went back home with a full fuel tank courtesy of Stabex International.
An excited Muwonge, who was escorted by friends, said he received a phone while in a workshop notifying him that he had won the car.
“I listened first. I didn’t abuse the person calling as is the norm with other people. He asked where I was and whether I had ever owned a car. I told him I’m a mechanic who has never bought a car for himself. Then he gave me the good news,” Muwonge narrated.
Muwonge said this has been possible because he has been aggressively transacting with Airtel Money.
“I buy airtime using Airtel Money. I send money to people and people send money to me using Airtel.
With over UGX 1.5 billion in rewards distributed, the campaign has impacted more than 6,000 participants over the past 3 months. On a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, the campaign has seen 4,050 customers win digital cash prizes, 117 customers win motorbikes, 585 agents recognized for growing their transaction volumes, and 585 merchants celebrated for promoting digital payments across the country.
Speaking at the Vroomula Amajja grand finale, Japhet Aritho, Airtel Money Managing Director, expressed his excitement as he outlined the campaign’s purpose.
“This promo was purely to drive financial inclusion and promote digital payments. Today was the most exciting day for me as we awarded the brand-new 2024 Hybrid car to Mr. Charles, a car mechanic. We applaud the winner, who has embodied the Airtel Money way by consistently transacting with us,” noted Aritho.
He added: “We have rewarded customers with 117 motorbikes. This is part of our efforts to promote a cashless economy, aligning with our vision for a more digital and inclusive financial future.”
According to Aritho, with Airtel Money, accessing cash is seamless.
“We have partnered with 1 million locations for easy payments. Every school accepts Airtel Money for tuition fees, and our customers can affordably access credit. Convenience at its best!”
