NBS Television Limited last week made a commitment to promote and provide live broadcast for the Makerere centennial celebrations in a partnership worth Shs200 million.
The partnership agreement will include live coverage at key events, documentaries, news features, talk shows and digital media coverage.
This partnership comes at a timely moment when Makerere University is holding year-long celebratory activities to commemorate 100 years of excellence.
The Chief Executive Officer of Next Media Services, Mr. Kin Kariisa, recounted his days at Makerere as a Guild Affairs Minister before he graduated and went on to teach at a then budding College of Computing and Information Sciences (CoCIS).
He also noted that over 65% of his employees at Next Media Services studied from Makerere University including all the 14 members of top management.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, recognized that the contribution of Makerere to humanity is enormous and should be celebrated.
“Currently, there are people from 54 countries studying at the university. Our contribution is not just local but global,” he said, adding, “The best way to celebrate these achievements is to tell the story to everybody. We are glad that NBS has partnered with us to tell that story.”
In line with the themes of the centennial celebrations, NBS Television Limited has decided to amplify the Makerere story even more through this partnership.
“We are going to promote messages that call for people to come back to the institution and rebuild it,” Mr. Kariisa said.
Makerere University’s celebration of 100 years marks the end of a century of excellence, and offers a chance to look beyond, and see how to participate in “Leveraging the 100 Years of Excellence in Building a Transformed Society.”
