Masaka Grade One Magistrate Christine Nantegge, has committed the Kawempe North Member of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya, his Makindye West counterpart Allan Ssewanyana, and four other others to the high court for trial for murder, terrorism, and abetting terrorism.

She made the decision after Masaka Resident State Attorney, Richard Birivumbuka informed the court that they had completed their investigations and were ready for trial. The state accuses the suspects of masterminding the indiscriminate machete killings that rocked Masaka region between January and August 2021.

Nantegge read the summary of the cases to the accused persons, saying that the state would present CCTV footage of their meetings in Ndeeba near Kabaka’s lake and happy boys’ restaurant to plan the killings.

The suspect’s lawyer and Kampala Woman Member of Parliament, Shamim Malende asked the court for copies of the committal papers. Meanwhile, Ssegirinya told the court that he never received treatment from Mulago National Referral Hospital and Murchison Bay prison health facility.

He prayed that the court orders the prison authorities to take him to private health facilities such as Nsambya, Mengo or Lubaga hospital where he can access specialized treatment.

In her response, Nantegge ordered prisons authorities to allow the legislators to access medical attention from specialists. Malende told reporters outside the court that they are also ready to proceed with the case in the high court.
