Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Rt. Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi has taken his “Fixing the Economy and Putting Money in Our Pockets” campaign to the Rwenzori subregion, drawing enthusiastic crowds in Ntoroko and Bundibugyo districts.
Accompanied by FDC Party President Hon. Eng. Patrick Amuriat Oboi, Mafabi addressed supporters in Karugutu Town Council, Ntoroko District, where he pledged to remove the army presence from Lake Albert to allow local communities to fully benefit from the blue economy.
The campaign trail then moved to Bundibugyo, where jubilant supporters gathered at Ntandi Town Council to welcome the FDC team. The highlight of the day came when Dr Bogere Nicholas, a former NRM member, defected to FDC with over 50 supporters.
He was officially received by Amuriat and Hon. William Mushabe Nzoghu, former FDC Deputy President in charge of Western Uganda. Dr Bogere is now expected to stand as the party’s parliamentary candidate for Bughendera County.
Despite police attempts to block their entry into Bundibugyo Town, Mafabi went ahead to address a rally in Bundibugyo Town Council and several stopovers in Bwamba County, where he was cheered on by large crowds.
Speaking at the rallies, Mafabi reiterated his economic message, faulting the ruling government for ignoring his long-standing advice on poverty alleviation.
“I have, over the years, advised Museveni’s government on how to fight poverty, but they refused to listen. That is why Uganda remains poor, while countries like Tanzania and China that applied my ideas have moved forward. Give me your vote and I will fix our economy and put money in your pockets,” he declared.
FDC leaders praised the resilience of their supporters, citing recent events in Jinja where crowds defied police attempts to block campaign rallies. “The taller the tree, the deeper the roots must be. Our people are rooted in the struggle for change,” an FDC statement read.
Today, the FDC campaign team is scheduled to continue its trail in Bunyangabu and Kasese districts.
Party President Amuriat described the growing support as a clear signal that Ugandans are ready for an economy that works for the people. “This campaign is about fixing the economy, restoring dignity to Ugandans, and giving people the power to prosper,” he said.
