Law Development Centre (LDC) Director, Frank Nigel Othembi, has been elected as Vice President of the Uganda Bikers Association.

The association has combined the joy of riding with raising funds and creating awareness on issues affecting society e.g natural disasters, road safety, cancer, HIV/AIDS etc.

On November 29, LDC announced that its Lira Campus student, Innocent Benja, had won an award for the “Best Student Legal Innovator of the Year” in Africa.

Innocent won the award because of the numerous legal articles he has written in newspapers, research etc. The ceremony took place in Nairobi, Kenya.

On December 1, the institution congratulated Patience Poni Ayikoru upon being recognised as an activist for women’s and girlchild rights and protection. November 29 marked Women’s Human Rights Defenders Day.

Patience Poni Ayikoru, 23, is a student of LDC, an activist, a Member of the Uganda Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Uganda) and an alumna of the African Women’s Leadership Institute convened by Akina Mama wa Afrika with support from UN Women, YALI Regional Leadership Centre Programme Cohort 43, the Transformational Leadership Camp in 2021 by Forum for Women in Democracy, the African Feminist Macroeconomic Academy (AFMA 2020) by African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET, Kenya) and the Young Leader’s Forum organized by Friedrich Ebert-Stiftung.

As an advocate for gender justice, Patience created a platform for young girls and women in my community in the rural areas of Koboko, West Nile region of Uganda to discuss the many challenges that young girls and women face.

At 21 years, she used her savings to register a Volunteer Based Organization in Koboko District, Uganda called ‘Femme Talk West Nile’ aimed at raising young women’s and girls’ voices and creating education awareness, advancing mentorship, leadership, and gender justice in the rural community.
