Kiruhura Deputy LC5 Chairman Arrested for Alleged Rape of Bishop Stuart University Student

The Territorial Police in Rwizi Region have arrested the Deputy LC5 Chairperson of Kiruhura district for the alleged rape of a 20-year-old student of Bishop Stuart University (BSU) Student.

SCP Enanga Fred, Police Spokesperson, said Atuhaire Adson, 30, is in custody at Mbarara Central Police Station in Mbarara City.

According to Enanga, the suspect on September 8, 2023, at around 2 pm, exchanged contact with the victim in Rwentondo, Kakoba ward in Mbarara City, after she gave him directions to Golden Leaf Bar.

“They were driving a Toyota Premio, registration number UAT 238Q. Later that evening, he called the victim and offered to take her out for an evening. He picked her up from the hostel at Kakoba Kyapatoni cell and went and bought groceries and snacks. On their way back, the suspect took a different route and along the way, raped the victim. The matter was reported to the police, and the suspect was arrested. His motor vehicle was also impounded,” Enanga said.

He added: “We would like to warn young women to be extra cautious, when moving out with strangers, especially when alone. The victim was particularly vulnerable when the suspect took a different direction and raped her.”
