Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Korean software development firm, SR Post Inc. that will facilitate the implementation of KCCA’s Smart City initiatives.

KCCA said in a statement that the Memorandum of Understanding with SR Post is a launch pad to developing and implementing Smart City initiatives and e-Government projects in Kampala.

“This partnership is part of the effort to bring to life initiatives like smart parking systems which will help drivers/motorists easily locate parking slots in the City, monitor revenue collection as well as having an interface through which the public can share feedback about services in Kampala using mobile phones,” the statement added.

In April 2017, KCCA joined the WeGO network (World Smart Sustainable Cities Organisation) in pursuit of sustainable urban development based on e-Government to enhance administrative efficiency, build City-to-City relations and share knowledge on Smart City strategies.

In a separate statement, SR Post said; “The MOU includes the sharing of experiences of building e-government and the establishment of smart city projects such as policy and smart education”.

“The city of Kampala has shown great interest in establishing a civil-call center integration system, as well as on-street and off-street parking”.

During their recent visit to Uganda, the team from the South Korean tech firm conducted a feasibility studyon the possibility of introducing smart parking in Kampala city. This includes arrangements for deployment direction and schedule, and mutual role distribution.

Smart parking, according to SR Post, will improve urban environment of beautiful Kampala city center, simplify parking experience, begin solving some serious traffic problems and also generate some substantial revenue.

The comprehensive project will also include integrated Civic Participation System, Smart Call Center System bundle to improve transparency, accountability, integrity, responsiveness and promote government’s participation when solving citizens’ difficulties.

Established in 2007 and headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, SR Posts works on Customer Consultation software development, Call Center Agent Application Development, Internal and External Portal Construction, maintenance, help desk, internal business systems development among others.
