KAMPALA — Kampala Queens FC crowned a memorable season by winning their first-ever FUFA Women’s Cup title after defeating Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC 2-0 in the 2026 final played at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, on Sunday.
The victory marks another major milestone for Kampala Queens, who have established themselves among the dominant forces in Ugandan women’s football in recent years.
The final attracted several top football administrators, including FUFA President Hon. Moses Magogo Hassim, Second Vice President Dr Azah Taibu, FUFA Executive Committee Member Deo Mutabazi and Kitara FC Chairman Deo Kasozi.
Ainembabazi Breaks the Deadlock
The highly anticipated contest began at an intense pace, with both sides creating opportunities during a closely contested first half.
Kampala Queens eventually found the breakthrough in the 38th minute when forward Joanitah Ainembabazi struck to give her side a deserved lead heading into the halftime break.
During the interval, fans were treated to a symbolic moment as Margaret Namirimu of She Corporate FC, winners of the 2023/24 FUFA Women’s Cup, presented the trophy before kickoff of the second half.
Queens Hold Firm Against Kawempe Pressure
Kawempe Muslim returned from the break determined to find an equaliser and dominated several phases of the second half. The former champions created multiple scoring opportunities but failed to convert as several attempts narrowly missed the target.
Despite sustained pressure from Kawempe, Kampala Queens remained organised defensively and continued to threaten on the counterattack.
Their persistence paid off in stoppage time when Kamiyat Naigaga produced a brilliant solo run before calmly finishing past the goalkeeper in the first minute of added time to seal a 2-0 victory and spark celebrations among the Kampala Queens faithful.
Individual Excellence Recognised
The final also served as an occasion to recognise standout performers from throughout the tournament.
Kampala Queens goalkeeper Sharon Norah Kaidu was named Best Goalkeeper for her impressive performances during the competition, while Kawempe Muslim’s Samalie Nakacwa took home the Best Defender accolade.
Kampala Queens midfielder Shamusa Najjuma was awarded Best Midfielder, highlighting the club’s dominance across key positions.
The biggest individual honours went to Joanitah Ainembabazi, who finished as both the tournament’s Top Scorer and Most Valuable Player (MVP), capping off a remarkable campaign that culminated in the club’s maiden cup triumph.
A New Chapter for Kampala Queens
The victory adds the FUFA Women’s Cup to Kampala Queens’ growing list of achievements and further strengthens the club’s reputation as one of the leading teams in Ugandan women’s football.
For Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC, the defeat was disappointing after a strong tournament run, but their performance in reaching the final reaffirmed their status as one of the country’s most competitive women’s football clubs.
As Kampala Queens lifted the trophy amid jubilant celebrations at Kadiba, the triumph signalled a new chapter in the club’s history and another significant step forward for the continued growth of women’s football in Uganda.
