Kagame lauds historical ties as New Ugandan Ambassador presents credentials

Uganda’s new High Commissioner to Rwanda, Oliver Wonekha has presented her credentials to Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

As diplomatic procedure requires, Ambassador Wonekha handed credentials to Rwanda’s Head of State at the at Urugwiro village in Kigali.

President Kagame welcomed the envoy and lauded the good relations that both Uganda and Rwanda have shared over the years.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, the President said he had high expectations that the two countries would strive to maintain the good relations and not take them for granted.

In her remarks, Ambassador Wonekha assured President Kagame that she would work to build on the successes of her predecessor to strengthen diplomatic ties.

President Kagame pledged to support her to fulfill her mandate where necessary and said that since Uganda and Rwanda have a long historical historical bond, the two countries should always try to iron out any differences amicably and move on smoothly.

In attendance at the ceremony was Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Louise Mushikiwabo and officials from the Uganda High Commission in Kigali.

Ambassador Wonekha previously served as Uganda’s Ambassador to the United States of America.
