President Museveni has nominated Hon. Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo for appointment as the new Principal Judge of Uganda, pending parliamentary approval.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni invoked powers vested in him under Article 142(1) of the 1995 Constitution, acting on the advice of the Judicial Service Commission, to forward Justice Abodo’s name and curriculum vitae for consideration.
The development was confirmed by Presidential Deputy Press Secretary Faruk Kirunda, who said in a statement:
“I hereby confirm that the letter circulating on social media regarding the appointment of Hon. Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo as the new Principal Judge is authentic. Her name has been forwarded to Parliament for the necessary approval. I congratulate her.”
If approved, Justice Abodo will assume the position of Principal Judge, a key office in the judiciary responsible for supervising the High Court and ensuring smooth judicial administration across the country.
Justice Abodo currently serves as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), a role she has held since her appointment in 2020.
