The Gazelles guard was named on the Afrobasket 2023 team of the tournament as the best forward and also won the tournament’s top scorer award after she scored 128 points in the six games she featured in.

Otto received the awards on Saturday after Nigeria had beaten Senegal in the Afrobasket final at the BK Arena.

“I just want to thank my teammates really, I feel like they’re the ones behind the scenes by giving me the ball, putting me in the right positions, thanks to coach Alberto, Juan, Ali Mavita and Nick Natuhereza for believing in me and trusting in me,” she said in an interview.

“Thank you to the fans we love you, all the support you gave us we couldn’t do it without you, these are for you all. I think I just want to win, that’s what it came down to at the end of the day,” she went on.

She added: “Me scoring, getting rebounds I was helping us try to win and we really did well for Uganda, as Gazelles we’re really a young team, just getting this experience is really important for us, hopefully, we come back and do better.”

The Gazelles who were making a third appearance at the Afrobasket after 1997 and 2015 beat Guinea 62-41 to seal a 7th-place finish their best ever at the showpiece.
